For this week’s Illustration Friday challenge of “wedding”, here is a pencil drawing of my hubby, on our wedding day. Not a very good representation (trust me, the ‘original’ is much better, heheh!), but I find it always difficult to capture the ones I love the most.
The Portrait
My whole life, it seems
I’ve spent only waiting
For the perfect man
My mind’s always painting
I’ve searched and searched
But the end’s all alike
I’ll go to bed empty
Sleep alone for the night
Suddenly, my hopes grow limp
My portrait fades to bland
I realize that my search must end
There is no perfect man
But you proved me wrong
You showed me what’s right
And handed back that paintbrush
To paint again tonight
But there is no need to paint
My work is nearly done
Because of him the colors returned
The light of love has won
My whole life of waiting
Has someone to end my strife
My dream has been accomplished:
The portrait came to life.

For this week’s Illustration Friday topic, I thought I’d choose a little spring-time visitor. Always a sure sign of spring.

1. I’m not shy. I’m an introvert. (Yes, there’s a difference!)
2. I cannot bear to watch animal movies. They always upset me, even if the endings are happy.
3. My first doctor’s visit was at the ripe age o’ 27 (besides being delivered by one, heh).
4. I have an odd aversion to porous things (ie. like this). Looking at it gives me a weird nauseated feeling. I loathe seeing the ground when it is frosty, and you see all the small sink holes in areas due to the frost. Ugh! That’s the stuff of nightmares! (I get somewhat nauseated just thinking about it).
5. I refuse to walk barefoot on floors, even ours here at home, although they are sparkling clean – I just hate the idea of getting anything on my feet.
6. I could handle watching a corpse being dissected, but just the mere idea of a needle going into skin, makes me cringe.
7. I have a big scar on my abdomen from spilling a hot cup of camomile tea on myself.
8. I just *love* the aroma of grapefruit. It’s got to be one of my favourite smells.

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

a beautiful little
discovery
made as a child…
I could hear the sea.

A brief little watercolour in my moleskine. Cooped up inside, thinking of the beach today…wishing I were there. (Alas, I had to work.) Such are the sacrifices of growing up.

A quick little sketch and watercolor of the antique croquet set in our hallway. I love its faded colors and well-loved rustic looks. I often wonder how much it was enjoyed in days gone by.

I’ve decided to change the purpose of this blog a little bit. It will still be home for my drawings and paintings, as well as reviews of art books, supplies, etc.
However, I’ve decided that – instead of participating in Illustration Friday – I would rather attempt to keep my drawing ideas “free form”. I will attempt to draw daily (or at least various times throughout the week).
The subject of my art will be just about anything, although my focus will mainly be on “everyday things” that I see around the house, or on my travels. Of course, if my artwork happens to coincide with an Illustration Friday topic, I will submit it for the challenge.
Anyhow, I will be doing my daily/weekly drawings in my two moleskines (3.5″x5.5″ and 5.25″x8.25″). I love the small sizes of the moleskines because they facilitate quick sketches and paintings – lending a more loose style.
Here are a few of the drawings from today…

I will be taking a brief hiatus from Illustration Friday. I’m in the middle of a switch in jobs right now, amongst other things. Just so you know.

This is actually my husband posing for this one, which I did a couple years ago while we were living in The Netherlands…
The lonely mood of the piece seems to go along well with the week’s topic of “rejection”.
