a beautiful little
discovery
made as a child…
I could hear the sea.

A brief little watercolour in my moleskine. Cooped up inside, thinking of the beach today…wishing I were there. (Alas, I had to work.) Such are the sacrifices of growing up.

Is this by watercolor? Wow you are picking it up so fast!
I feel tempted to try doing monochrome in watercolor, but it’s hard! Probably becuz I’m bad at sketching.

Yes, Miranda this is a watercolour painting. I still find it challenging because I’m used to working with opaque colors (acrylics) but I’m slowly starting to really enjoy the ‘looseness’ that is possible with watercolour. For me the trick is to map out in my mind where I should leave blank canvas (to signify highlights or reflections), as opposed to the coloured areas. Sometimes I will even outline these areas with pencil so I remember not to paint over them.

And, lol, bookbabie – a moleskine is a brand of notebook made in Italy. The kind I have is especially made for watercolor paintings.
